My hobby is gardening but my knowledge about gardening is very poor. I want to enhance my knowledge regarding it.
Your local nurseries should have a supply of books about your local conditions. The price will be a bit high, comparatively, but theirs no substitute for exacting advice about your own garden conditions. And they usually have sections explaining the basics along with them. I can’t say I have any generalized favorite books. Too many plants in those books that won’t work for my conditions. It’s disheartening. Although, I do like some of the stylistic ideas in Beautiful Gardens Made Easy by Miracle Gro. And if you like Cacti at all, Terry Hewitt wrote an awesome one called Cacti and Succulents.

The Tallest Man on Earth – The Gardener
I sense a runner in the garden
Although my judgements known to fail
Once built a steamboat in a meadow
Cos I’d forgotten how to sail
I know the runner’s going to tell you
There ain’t no cowboy in my hair
So now he’s buried by the daisies
So I could stay the tallest man in your eyes, babe
I sense a spy up in the chimney
From all the evidence I’ve burned
I guess he’ll read it in the smoke now
And soon to ashes I’ll return
I know the spy is going to tell you
It’s not my flag up in the pole
So now he’s buried by the lilies
So I could stay forever more in your eyes, babe
I sense a leak inside my phone now
From all the lies I have told
I know he has your private number
And soon he’ll make that vicious call
I know the leak is going to tell you
There ain’t now puppy in your leash
So now he’ll fertilize the roses
So I could stay the king you see
In your eyes, babe (x2)
So now we’re dancing through the garden
And what a garden I have made
And now that death will grow my jasmine
I find it soothing I’m afraid
Now there is no need for suspicion
There ain’t no frog kissing your hand
I won’t be lying when I tell you
That I’m a gardner I’m a man
In your eyes babe (x3)

My hobby is gardening but my knowledge about gardening is very poor. I want to enhance my knowledge regarding it.
Sunset Western Garden books are the basic and are the best for identifying your growing zone. Older books contain information that the newer ones eliminate, so it’s a good idea to pick up old editions at used book stores as well as the new version. Also get the Sunset book on pest identification and go green to eliminate the nasties. Then add specialty books on topics of interest to you. John Greenley’s book on grasses is one. Botanica by R.G.Turner Jr., a plant encyclopedia, has good photographs…if you see something you like, look it up in Sunset to see if it will grow in your area. Plant catalogues such as David Austin roses and San Marcos Growers( California) are fantastic design resources for wish lists and contain handy tips on growth requirements. They’re free, always a good thing. Check local botanical garden bookstores for a book on native plants in your area and plant those for ease of growing and for helping the planet!! It’s a Pandora’s Box, love. AND, don’t forget to browse the library. Happy growing.

You may be interested in beautifying your existing garden or starting one. Whether it will be just for a small project of planting vegetables, planting gorgeous flowers and luxuriant plants or creating a sophisticated landscaped garden, you need to consider the following tips to avoid problems that may occur in the future. It is important that you arm yourself and be prepared before beginning any gardening activity.
When we have a garden especially if it has lots of flowers, insects especially bees get attracted. Bee stings can be painful and if you get too many of them (and I mean quite a lot) it can be deadly. You also have to be aware if you are allergic to a bee sting. Other people who are allergic need medication for this for in some cases (though not applicable to all) the allergy causes them to have either difficulty in breathing or swallowing or excessive swelling in the affected area caused by the sting. If it is common in your family to be allergic to bee stings or if you discover that you are indeed allergic to it, consult a physician for the necessary medication before going out to put that green thumb to work.
Another allergy that is common is pollen allergies. If your garden has a lot of flowers, pollen would definitely be flying just about anywhere. The thing is that most of this pollen is not that visible to us and sometimes we do not notice that we may be breathing or inhaling them already. If your allergy to pollen is somewhat severe it is best that you stay indoors and avoid doing any gardening to prevent any complications.
So now that you are aware that you may not have any allergy to encounter once you start your gardening you have to equip yourself with the right attire.
If you want to avoid mosquito as well as other insect bites, I advise you to wear long pants and long sleeves. It is important also that you wear gloves when doing your gardening to protect your hands especially from possible bites of spiders that may be living in your plants.
It is best also that you do your gardening during the time of day wherein it is the least hot. Early in the morning or late in the afternoon would be ideal. If you want to bask in the sun while you do your gardening, do wear some sunscreen to help protect your skin. Enjoy gardening.

Article Marketing is a great tool to use when it comes to adding traffic to your site. If you are not familiar with what it is, Article Marketing is simply writing articles and submitting them to article reprint directories on the web.
You’re probably aware that fresh content is important to getting search engine traffic to your website or blog. A lot of webmasters and bloggers frequent these article directory websites, looking for new articles for their own sites.
When you submit an article to a directory, you are allowing other website owners and bloggers permission to add your article to their site – for free. However, they need to include an ‘about the author’ box at the end of the article.
This section lets you include more information about your website, as well as links back to it where people can get more information.
When someone posts your article on their site, they also post this about the author section and everyone who reads the article on their website sees it. Your article can ultimately end up on hundreds of websites, with thousands of visitors reading it and clicking the links through to your own site.
There are plenty of article directories to choose from on the web. All you need to do is search Google for ‘free article directories’ and you’ll find a bunch. Some of them will be topic-specific (say, health or finance related articles for example) while other are more general. You can submit the same article to multiple directories to get the best exposure. In fact, you can even get software that will automate the process for you. Coming up with ideas for article topics is really not hard. Just take the topic of your website and think of a question your visitors would have, then write an article answering it. For example, if you have a gardening website, you could write about how to care for your indoor plants or when to start planting seeds.

If you do not like to write, don’t worry. You can hire a ghostwriter to write your article for you. You can ask other Internet Marketers for referrals on reputable ghostwriters. The prices for an article will vary, but an average rate is about $10 to $12 for a 500 word article. Once you discuss with the ghostwriter what you are looking for, they will write the article and send it back to you. Some ghostwriters may also include submit the article to reprint directories for you.

hi everyone could you help ive just had my garden made over.ive gone from soggy muddy grass to gravel with a winding path up the middle.it looks fab only a little bare ,im having a mental block at the moment how can i make it a touch more interesting, any ideas would be much appreciated.the gravel is yellow/gold and the path is a red/terracotta shade, quite a large garden so needs a little interest i have two kids also so something low maintenance cheers.
Low maintenance plants that will go well are shrubs. If you had a membrane put down under the gravel you can clear some gravel, make a cross cut in the membrane, plant the shrub and then replace the gravel. If the gravel is yellow/gold then go for something with dark green leaves like a viburnum tinus or a skimmia japonica.
