where can i get a … where can i get a copy of THIS song? i have the cd but i like this version more. message me if you know. id appreciate it a lot. thanks.
Honestly, why do … Honestly, why do you sit here and try to interpret what he’s singing about. The only thing that should matter is what the song means to you. That’s the great thing about music, everyone hears something different.
Here I really … Here I really disagree. Saying a lot with simpler words is just a different style.
He’s probably got a recorded catalogue of about a dozen songs, and at least five, including: The Gardner, The Blizzard’s Never Seen The Desert Sands, I Won’t Be Found, Pistol Dreams, The Sparrow And The Medicine, are all classics imo, both lyrically and melodically.
When you think about it, Dylan always refused to explain any of his songs. And some of his lyrics were bollox.
Are you sure it’s a … Are you sure it’s a metaphor?
I’m not. I hear biography in there, filled with paranoia, desperation, fear of detection and haunting as a result of a much worse act than lying, an act committed to cover up lies… and the truth – of who he isn’t!
And then there’s dark comedy:
“So now he’s buried by the lilies So I could stay forever more in your eyes, babe”
and
“So now he’ll fertilize the roses
So I could stay the king you see
In your eyes, babe”
By the way, I … By the way, I seriously doubt whether he wrote these lyrics himself; the lyrics of all his other songs are, compared to this song, worthless
it’s a metaphor … it’s a metaphor about his lies. he ‘buried’ these lies in his garden. eventually he and (most likely) a girl he’s been pretending to that he is something greater than he is, are ‘dancing through he garden’ = catching up on the lies (death will grow my jasmine i find it soothing = he’s actually glad that she finds out). it ends with : I’m a gardener i’m a man, meaning: I’m a liar I’m a man.
it is an exquisite masterpiece, better than about all songs I’ve heard (including dylan and drake)
